We are a 501 (c)(3) Public Charity
At Dheean Pukardian, our twin missions are "to stop female feticide in India by spreading education about its root causes" and "to sponsor education for needy girls to provide them with a head-start in life".
Established in 2011, Dheean Pukardian (Daughter's Outcry), was founded in an effort to combat the growing inequality between the sexes in India. This social contrast in India - though officially outlawed, continues because of a patriarchal cultural cycle that has continued for generations. This cycle is only compounded by the tradition of dowry, in which the family of the wife must give tribute to the family of the husband. A custom that is not only common in India, but China and much of the Middle East as well.
Poverty is rampant in India, and because of this, many families have found it is more convenient to avoid having daughters than it is to pay dowry. According to UNICEF and the World Health Organization, over 11 million female fetuses are aborted each year in India and China alone. If these killings are allowed to continue at the current rate, within the next 20 years, over 6 million men in Punjab alone will have severe difficulties in finding a wife. Currently the ratio remains 852 to every 1000 boys.
In 2010 when I retired from Fermi Lab I asked myself this question:
"Am I going to live the same routine life I have been living or I am going to do something different in the rest of my productive years?"
Guided by my conscience, after a careful scrutiny of the issues India is facing today, female feticide moved me deeply. To save born and unborn daughters of India became my mission and thus Dheean Pukardian Inc was born.
Kuldeep lives in Naperville, IL with his wife and the youngest of his two children.
I believe that God has been good to me by giving me more than what I have asked for. When Kuldeep described his vision about Dheean Pukardian to me, the idea was born. I am committed to ensuring that your contributions reach the most deserving girls, in order to eventually root this evil from society.
Prakash holds a masters degree in business management and has been working in the IT consulting services industry since 1988. He lives in Naperville, IL with his wife and two children.
I grew up with proud parents of three daughters. They were not blinded by the negative stigma surrounding gender. Through their love, education, and values, I can proudly say today that I am a stronger and a more independent woman. This ideology can clearly be seen through Dheean Pukardian, which is aspiring to provide girls a helping hand in a male dominated society. I am blessed to be provided the opportunity to be connected to such a great cause.
Bindu has two Bachelor's degrees in education and mathematics. She has been in the IT industry for the last 20 years. She resides in Naperville where she raised her two boys and continues to instill these values in them.
I grew up thinking that life focused around oneself is not the model of life Sikhism teaches us. Bearing that in mind, whenever I saw an opportunity to be helpful to others I jumped into it.
I began with starting Punjabi radio (Kala Darpan), became founding executive secretary of Punjabi Heritage Organization , founded Punjabi Cultural Society, co-founded Global Punjabi Milap: which brings Punjabi people together from all over. I am founding member of POC (Partners of our Community): A nonprofit organization that helps recent immigrants from all corners of the earth. Together with my wife, Sardarni Rajinder Kaur- a registered nurse by profession; I have organized free medical camps in India. I help arrange programs for senior citizens; and when I am not doing all these activities I teach Bhangra to anyone who wants to learn.
Following my lead y daughter Navraz is a social worker and has made documentaries on different aspects of life in India. I have known Kuldeep Singh Sra, since 1996 and believe in the mission of Dheean Pukardian. I have a degree in X-RAY technology and after having jobs for 10 years I became self employed.
I live in Palatine Illinois with my wife.
Since childhood, I have been seeing both of my parents serving for the society. Fueled by that inspiration, I have been involved in multiple nonprofit organizations such a Federation of Indian Association (FIA), Indian American Cultural Association (IACA), Oneness Run etc.
I came to know about Dheean Pukardian Organization when Sardar Kuldeep Singh ji gave a presentation at one of the sikh temple in Palatine, IL. However the spark of its cause has absolutely fascinated me when I got a chance to meet personally with him and learned more about his mission of saving and helping underprivileged girls. Being similar Cognizance, I decided to associate with this organization and serve.
